The Valerie Lissette School of Dance has established a reputation for excellence in dance training and theatrical performances in Hamilton.

Our classes promote coordination, poise, flexibility, an appreciation of music and almost as important – respect! As students get older there is a strong focus on technique and performance – allowing them to develop as accomplished, versatile dancers.
Classes offered are Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary and Musical Theatre, which are taught by qualified teachers in an encouraging and supportive atmosphere.
The School is a registered member of the Royal Academy of Dance, American Jazz Dance Affiliation, and Theatrical Dance International.
Everyone can participate in our entertaining annual production at the Clarence St Theatre.

SYLLABI

Royal Academy of Dance (RAD)

Founded in 1920, the RAD has grown to become the largest examining and training body for ballet in the world. The examinations are recognised worldwide and RAD is taught in more than 70 countries meeting the highest standards of dance training. The syllabus is devised with great care, demanding no more of a young body than it can easily cope with.

American Jazz Dance Affiliation (AJDA)

AJDA offers a strong support network to teachers, sharing knowledge and experiences in teaching and choreography. The syllabus incorporates the styles of Funk, Contemporary, Lyrical and Musical Theatre, focusing on strength, technique, flexibility and performance. This syllabus is a great compliment to our ballet work.

Theatrical Dance International (TDI)

TDI is an Australasian Association formed for the teachers and students of the 21st Century.  This Tap syllabus is designed to create an interest and “love of dance” in young people today. Alongside the traditional tap syllabus we now also offer “Beat It “ classes,  these are American style tap classes which are best learnt after some formal tap training.
